The First Earth-Mars War was the first major conflict fought between United Earth and the Vers Empire from 1999 to the early 21st century.

Heavens Fall
A prominent event of the First Earth-Mars War was Heaven’s Fall. The incident occurred in 1999, 15 years prior to the events of Aldnoah.ZERO RPG. Following the Vers Empire’s declaration of war against United Earth, a massive battle ensued on the Moon. As a direct result of the fighting, the Aldnoah Hyper Gate went out of control, destroying itself and the Moon. Countless boulders from the Moon’s debris rained down on the Earth, causing several disasters including gravity wave-induced crustal deformation, earthquakes, tsunamis and abnormal weather patterns. The damage could only be described as catastrophic, and after a decade and a half there are still signs of the overwhelming damage Heaven’s Fall. As a result of the Hyper Gate’s destruction, the Orbital Knights around Earth were cut off from Mars and forced to take up residence among the Satellite Belt in their Landing Castles. Recently, travel back to Mars has been made possible, however the Orbital Knights retain their positions.
Battle of Tanegashima
One of the first areas to be affected by the Moon's destruction was Tanegashima, Japan. During the battle, the Mitsubishi Type 90 Main Battle Tanks were pitted against the Martian Kataphrakt known as Deucalion. During the battle, John Humeray was killed by Lieutenant Koichiro Marito. However, Marito's mission report about the event was later dismissed by officials as a fabrication.
Aftermath of the War
The aftermath of the First Earth-Mars War caused many inconveniences to both Martians and Terrans, notably from the destruction of the Moon, the Hyper Gate and the Heaven's Fall Incident itself.
